Royal Candles: the story of people totally in love with the craft of decorative candle carving

Royal Candles was founded in 2011 by sisters Aliona and Feodora.

"Candle carving became my passion and obsession in 2011, when by chance or fate I saw some beautifully crafted candles online. The way the master was showcasing his impressive skill made me fall in love with this intricate art.

Soon after I decided that this is something I wanted to be able to do myself and after spending what was probably hundreds of hours of research and pure admiration, I began buying all the necessary supplies to begin carving.

At the time I was living in Ireland and there was nobody involved in this art, so all I had was the worldwide web to help me.

Online there were a number of carving masters but there weren’t any comprehensive instructions so I was left experimenting on my own.

With time, my self-taught candle craft skills improved, but I wanted to perfect my carving so I decided to do some professional training.

In the meantime, I got my sister, Feodora, hooked on it also. As a business student she explained to me that with time this passion of mine could have the potential to support me and my loved ones as a business, as well as a much-loved hobby.

Feodora and I flew more than 5000 Km all the way to Yekaterinburg in the Urals region of Russia to complete our training.

We chose to go there because we were impressed with their work and we wanted to learn from the best of the best.

The training was a full week of carving and carving and carving some more, but besides that we enjoyed the amazing and magical Russian winter: the temperature often dropped to -25 °C or more - but our love for carving candles kept us warm.

After the rigorous training we were ready to take this passion to the next level and we began realising our dream to make Royal Candles a reality.

In 2015 I moved to UK where I began working towards our dream. Every morning my mind is filled with anticipation and excitement that today will open new doors of opportunity.

It is true that sometimes there are major hurdles in the way but overcoming those is what makes this journey a whole lot more fulfilling.

“Dreams don’t work unless you do” by John C. Maxwell is one of my favourite quotes, I love it because to me it makes perfect sense.

Dreams don’t come true through magic; it takes sweat, patience and a whole lot of hard work."
